History of the creation
of DEXNET technology

In 2017, a team of developers started working under the leadership of Alexey Kedo. Today it includes more than 20 IT specialists from Canada, Turkey, Spain, Ukraine, Germany, England and Australia. The staff includes specialists with specialized higher or related education, from middle+ to senior and leading levels. In addition to developers, the team includes business and system analysts, interface designers, developers, devops and testers.

DEXNET team initiated work on decentralized network technology in 2017 under the brand name IBS. A group of IT security developers aimed to create a decentralized NAS server without physical and legal vulnerabilities. Their goal was to build a cloud storage service with thousands of user microservers across different continents, eliminating the need for a central coordinating server. This decentralized approach ensured the highest level of security by preventing physical and legal influence on the data center and its employees. The technology involved encryption and segmentation of encrypted containers, storing separate fragments on distributed nodes, and assembling them on the client device. Only the owner who uploaded the information would have access to it in the cloud.

However, the classic server architecture required central server management for all nodes, contradicting the idea of decentralization. Inspired by a worm algorithm that infected computers in the background and scanned worldwide IPs, the development team devised a similar algorithm. When infected devices found each other on the wide area network, they exchanged their experiences without a coordinating server.

This algorithm served as the basis for forming a decentralized cloud and was utilized until 2022. In 2022, everything changed with the introduction of the SWARM closed satellite system by SpaceX. This allowed nodes to connect to the satellite system, rendering powerful processors and extensive scans unnecessary to assemble a cluster of dispersed devices. Consequently, the size and power consumption of the nodes were reduced.

Data on open ports and assigned IP addresses are now transmitted between nodes within a fraction of a second, bypassing the public Internet through a local network facilitated by low-orbit SWARM satellites. DEXNET's connection to these satellites enabled the exchange of data, encryption keys, and other service information, even when the node was not connected to the Internet.

The availability of an alternative satellite channel with global coverage not only ensured secure data storage and transmission worldwide but also decentralized the Internet itself.
